National Pro GRID League (NPGL) Coach Jeremy Jones “JJ”
Jeremy’s fitness interests started with a number of sports at a young age (baseball, basketball, etc.) but eventually focused on soccer for 9 years before moving on to study the Martial Arts. He began training under the instruction Robert Yard at Tracy’s Kenpo Karate (a.k.a. Kenpo Jiu Jitsu), becoming an instructor in 1997. While studying under Mr. Yard, he was introduced to the art of Shootfighting (Mixed Martial Arts or “MMA” introduced to the US from Japan by Bart Vale). Jeremy has been coaching Shootfighting since 2000, competing in amateur fights on occasion.
Immediately following an amateur bout in the spring of 2004, Jeremy found CrossFit. Even after winning in the ring, his body was brutally beaten by his first CrossFit WOD (workout of the day). After more than a year of rigorously following the CrossFit method, incorporating it into his Martial Arts practice /teachings, and making occasional visits to the HQ in Santa Cruz, he was certified in the fall of 2005.
Since that first certification, Jeremy has been coaching CrossFit athletes and classes, opening Diablo CrossFit. In 2009 and 2010, he competed on the Diablo CrossFit Affiliate Team as one of the athletes. Since 2009, Jeremy has coached dozens of athletes to the Regional Qualifier and the World Championships (the “CrossFit Games”).
